about

We'd just included this track in our live set list when we were invited to do a gig in Nottingham headlining an evening with another band called Friends of (this last bit changed with every gig they did but it was usually the name of someone famous/infamous). The invite came from our mate Chris Olley who used to live in Wakefield but moved to Nottingham to study photography. Friends of... was his band. A music journalist (who could thread a shoelace through his nose - I kid you not!) travelled with us because he was going to do a review of GID. On the way home after the gig I remember this journalist wouldn't stop talking about the other band and kept going on about how much he liked them. Friend of... later became Six. By Seven.

lyrics

I won't be a cog in a big machine
I won't be a cog in a big machine
I've seen ‘em break and I've heard ‘em scream
I won't be a cog

We’ll drive away to a promised land where the waters fall and the circle stands
And then we'll hide our souls in a sacred place and say a prayer or two
We’ll leave a sign on a crumbling wall that shows a man and woman both standing tall
And the naked pair locked in a kiss and hands held in salute

It's gonna kill us all
if we let it go
It's gonna kill us all if we let it go
so don't come on like you don't know
I won't be a cog in a big machine

We’ll drive away to a promised land where the waters fall and the circle stands
And then we'll hide our souls in a sacred place and say a prayer or two
We’ll leave a sign on a crumbling wall that shows a man and woman both standing tall
And the naked pair locked in a kiss and hands held in salute

it's gonna kill us all
it's gonna kill us all
it's gonna kill us all
